Yang Shi Ying (PhD Student)

I started my PhD through Charles Sturt University, Australia, in August 2003 while doing research at DArT P/L. My thesis is on the development and application of DArT for pigeonpea. I am also currently working on the DArT for chickpea project. In 2002, before embarking on my PhD, I started work at CAMBIA as a visiting scientist on a TransGenomics project in rice and also on DArT technology development for cassava.

I studied at Guangxi University of China from 1986 to 1991 and received a Bachelor's degree majoring in Agriculture. I also studied pigeonpea breeding at the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in India between 1999 and 2000, and subsequently in 2001 received training on development and utilization technology of pulses at the same institute.

I was an agricultural technician in the Yulin Regional Agricultural Demonstration Farm from 1991 to 1994. Thereafter, I was a medium agronomist in Yulin Regional Agricultural Institute of China from 1994 to 1996. I have been at the Institute of Crop Genetic Resources, Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences of China since 1996 and was promoted to the position of associate professor. I worked on 15 different projects in rice and legume crops' genetic resource collection, evaluation and breeding, and molecular biotechnology.

I have published 16 papers in different journals so far, and have three times received the Science and Technology Awards of Guangxi Province Government.
