Hi, I am a fan of GNU/Linux.
I graduated from the Australian National University with a M.Sc. in IT (eScience) in 2005. eScience is an intersection between computation science, software engineering and general computer science. It is a newly invented term, and the Department of Computer Science at ANU is one of many organisations promoting this term.
My Master thesis was on Khmer spell checking. Khmer is the official language of Cambodia, which does not have spaces between words.
I went away from DArT for a year to work for a Canberra-based enterprise search engine company, Funnelback from Aug. 2008 to Jul. 2009. During this one year, I received hands on experience with search technology at a large scale as Funnelback providing a search solution to Australia.gov.au offering search coverage over all Australian Federal government websites, and most state, territory and local government webistes. I also enhanced and collected new GNU/Linux skills including BASH scripting for Linux system automation, load balancing and Linux high availability with heartbeat and ldirectord.
Experiences at Funnelback were invaluable concluding (sort of) my 10-year system administration career adventure started in 1999 back in Cambodia when one of my best friends found me a part-time intern job at a reproductive and child health non-government organisation called RACHA (Reproductive and Child Health Alliance) working with Microsft Access, Windows 95/98 and NT.
A two-year life journey at the ANU boosted my determination to quit Microsoft addiction once and for all. However, I was tempting to pick up this addiction again after I graduated and failed to find work with GNU/Linux environment in Canberra. Fortunately, DArT came to rescue me and seal this addiction hole completely. These days I still have Windows and Microsoft stuff on my laptop and desktop, but only in case my sisters need my computer. As long as I don't open Windows, my computer works perfectly well and efficiently with GNU/Linux. "Computers are like air conditioners -- they stop working properly if you open WINDOWS.", invented by some on the Internet who does not like Microsoft much.
