I am a molecular biologist/programmer who joined the DArT team in 2003. My current role in DArT involves developing DArT technology for mammalian genomes. Mammalian genomes are arranged differently to plants, requiring novel approaches to complexity reduction methodology. I also work with the DArT IT department and run the DArT Microarray facility.
I completed a Masters Degree from University College, Dublin in 1998. My research project was entitled: "Elucidating the cell signalling pathway for the guanine nucleotide-binding protein CDC42Hs". The protein is the human homologue for the S. cerevisiae cell division protein CDC42. I later took a position at CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems working on controlled sterility in pest species. This work was a forerunner to a current project within CSIRO developing "daughterless carp" technology for the control of European carp.
In 2001, I furthered my education by completing a Graduate Diploma in Information Technology with First Class Honours at Dublin City University. I gained experience as a software developer developing an online transactional system for a major international insurance company while working in New Zealand.
