Investors

When DArT P/L was formed in 2001, it received its initial assistance from CAMBIA, the Biotechnology Innovation Fund of the Australian Federal Government, and the ACT Government. The assistance provided by the Rockefeller Foundation to CAMBIA was also instrumental in getting the technology off the ground.
Australia's grains industry expressed continued interest in the technology and invested in DArT through its Research and Development body (GRDC), enabling the speedy development of DArT for barley and wheat. Triticarte Pty Ltd, a joint venture between the Cooperative Research Centre for Value Added Wheat (VAWCRC) and DArT P/L delivered commercially the DArT genotyping services for wheat and barley until 2009. After the termination of VAWCRC, DArT P/L assumed full control over Triticarte and is now delivering the wheat and barley services under the Triticarte brand. Ongoing investment by the GRDC has been supporting the development of DArT for sorghum, chickpea and lupin and the improvement of the wheat and barley services.
Other Australian investors in the early phase of the technology development were Australian Wool Innovation, and the Gardiner Foundation. At the same time, the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) also provided CAMBIA with the resources to progress the development of DArT in rice.
BSES Limited and the Cooperative Research Centre for Sugar Industry Innovation through Biotechnology, together with the International Consortium for Sugarcane Biotechnology, supported the establishment of DArT for sugarcane.
Multinational consortia of scientists supported the development of DArT for Oats, Hops, Brassica, Triticale and Eucalyptus.
The Generation Challenge Program of the CGIAR has been supporting the development of DArT for banana, cassava, coconut and a range of tropical crops. DArT P/L has been collaborating on many tropical crops with CIRAD (Montpellier, France) and ICRISAT (Hyderabad, India).
