GRDC Wheat CRC CAMBIA Federal government ACT government Rockefeller foundation HAL Australian wool Gardiner foundation CIGAR GRDC Triticarte

When the DArT P/L company was formed in 2001, it received its initial assistance from CAMBIA, the Biotechnology Innovation Fund of the Australian Federal Government, and the ACT Government. The assistance provided by the Rockefeller Foundation to CAMBIA was also instrumental in getting the technology off the ground.

Australia's grains industry expressed continued interest in the technology and invested in DArT through its Research and Development body (GRDC), enabling the speedy development of DArT for barley and wheat. DArT genotyping services for wheat and barley are now commercially available through Triticarte Pty Ltd, a joint venture between the Cooperative Research Centre for Value Added Wheat (VAWCRC) and DArT P/L. Ongoing investment by the GRDC is now supporting the development of DArT for sorghum, chickpea and lupin.

Other Australian investors in the technology over the past 4 years have been Australian Wool Innovation, and the Gardiner Foundation. At the same time, the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) also provided CAMBIA with the resources to progress the development of DArT in rice.

More recently BSES Limited together with the International Consortium for Sugarcane Biotechnology has been supporting the establishment of DArT for sugarcane.

DArT P/L is also actively involved in international agricultural research, for example through projects developed with the Generation Challenge Program of the CGIAR.
