Sugarcane genetic mapping has lagged behind other crops due to its complex autopolyploid genome structure. Modern sugarcane cultivars have from 110-120 chromosomes and are in general interspecific hybrids between two species with different basic chromosome numbers:Saccharum officinarum (2n = 80) with a basic chromosome number of 10 and S. spontaneum (2n = 40-128) with a basic chromosome number of 8.

To find stable resistance using association mapping tools, QTL with major and minor effects on leaf rust reactions were identified in barley breeding lines by assessing seedlings and adult plants. Three hundred and sixty (360) elite barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) breeding lines from the Northern Region Barley Breeding Program in Australia were genotyped with 3,244 polymorphic diversity arrays technology markers and the results used to map quantitative trait loci (QTL) conferring a reaction to leaf rust (Puccinia hordei Otth)

The sequence of these DArT markers plus SNP and EST-SSR markers was then used to form a bridge to the sorghum genomic sequence by BLAST alignment to start to unravel the complex genomic architecture of sugarcane.

An integrated dense linkage map of Brassica carinata (BBCC) was constructed in a doubled haploid population based on DArT-SeqTM markers. A total of 4,031 markers corresponding to 1,366 unique loci were mapped including 639 bins, covering a genetic distance of 2,048 cM. We identified 136 blocks and islands conserved in Brassicaceae, which showed a feature of hexaploidisation representing the suggested ancestral crucifer karyotype.
