As for specific requirements we have currently the following job positions opened:
Programmer, web services developer
We are looking for a new IT staff member - programmer and web applications developer - who will help us to create unique, non-standard web applications and other software tools. The work may also require to help us to administer our servers and network. Final salary will depend on candidate's experience. This is a Canberra-based, full time, one year contract with a very high possibility of extension.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in web programming (Perl/CGI, PHP and JavaScript are the main consideration, but other languages are also welcome)
- Good understanding of the database structures, database connectivity and data security issues
- Good understanding of web services and system architectures involved in such solutions
- Solid knowledge of basic Linux server administration
- Good ability to communicate with future users and to document the work
- Good problem solving skills and willingness to explore areas from “outside the IT world”
- Good organisational skills
Additional (optional) advantages we will consider:
- Advanced knowledge about Apache web server configuration
- Any Java programming experience
- Advanced system and network administration skills
- Database administration skills, especially in open source databases like MySQL
- Some previous experience in bioinformatics, plant breeding or GIS systems
Responsibilities:
- Development of our company web applications (services) and other software suites
- Communication with future users to identify their needs
- Implementing and integrating new features / algorithms into a larger, working system
- Maintenance, testing and debugging of the created systems
- Development of documentation for developers and users
- Help-desk for system users
